Since I started doing this it has become somewhat of a tradition to check out the oldest bar/restaurant wherever I go. In Philly that is "McGillin's Olde Ale House", opened in 1860 it is the oldest continually operating bar in the city & I believe the 5th oldest in the country. The restaurant biz has always been a challenging endeavor & to have made it through the Civil War, WW1, The Spanish Flu, Prohibition, The Great Depression, WW2, Korean War, Vietnam War, a recession, a housing market crash, & now another plague, inflation & quite possibly another recession, to name a few ha.. is quite remarkable. Although touristy it has a nice neighborhood pub kind of vibe & right in the heart of such a historic & storied area, a great place to haunt 🍻
